The Omi International Arts Center is sponsoring a call for innovative built environment projects.  We are presently making Request for Proposals in four categories relevant to the theme of large scale art and architecture projects set into the natural landscape.

CATAGORIES:

  1. MUSEUM Structures will be dedicated to showing major collections and art exhibitions.  The Museum Buildings will be independently operated by institutions, collectors or artists.  These buildings will be suitable for collectors of the highest order and artists with large holdings looking for legacy sites with the appropriate environment and infrastructure to support major artistic endeavors. These buildings may vary in size from 2,000 sq. ft. to 10,000 sq. ft. The locations of the Museum buildings are determined by factors such as scenic views, road access and landscape configurations. The environment surrounding each site is varied to allow for different experiences and exploration of various relationships to the landscape.
  2. EVENT Structures will be the primary functional and artistic elements located within the complex. They are defined and classified by the types of services and amenities which each of these points provide.  Event Structures are defined as follows:AREAS are isolated locations for monumental sculptures out in nature. An “Area” could be a site specific installation, monumental earthwork or sculptural/architectonic object. Areas could be quite large covering most of a field.
  3. PLATFORMS are ground planes that are designed and prepared for intimate scaled sculptures and objects.  Platforms may be created from materials such as stone, wood, earth or planted material.
  4. PAVILIONS will be significant architectonic events located around the grounds. They do not need to be a fully enclosed “building” per se however they may provide some enclosure. Pavilions are conceptually major constructions which could be created by architects, artists or collaborative cross-disciplinary efforts. Pavilions can be temporary or permanent.  Pavilions are envisioned as the establishment of a contemporary typology conceptually located between garden folly, art installation, landscape proposition and architecture. Pavilions are generally located remotely in order to provide destinations for hikers out in the landscape.

FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS:

All projects shall be entirely funded by an independant reputable arts organization, the artists’ personal funding, corporate or collector sponsorship sources, or other means of support. Funding shall include the costs of all labor and materials for the entire construction project including the site-work, site preparation as well as a stipend for all necessary local engineering and construction management support.
